# Automatic anonymization after cancellation

> Automatically anonymize and archive cancelled subscriptions after a configurable delay to remove personal data while retaining historical records.

Use automatic anonymization to remove customer personal data from cancelled and stopped subscriptions after a configurable delay, while archiving the subscription so it no longer appears in the normal merchant subscription views.

## What it is

When enabled, Firmhouse automatically clears personal data such as:

* name
* email
* address
* payment details

The subscription is archived, so merchants no longer see it in the normal subscription list or detail view. The archived record remains available internally for historical reporting and reconciliation.

## Enable in New Features

1. In the Firmhouse Portal, open **New Features**.
2. Enable **Automatic anonymization after cancellation**.
3. Go to **Settings > Subscription** and open the **Data privacy** section.
4. Turn on **Enable automatic anonymization**.
5. Set the anonymization period in months or years.
6. Save the settings.

## How it works

* Cancelled and stopped subscriptions are anonymized after the configured period has passed, then archived.
* Already archived subscriptions are skipped.
* If you disable the feature in **New Features**, the data privacy settings section is hidden and the cleanup job stops processing projects with that flag disabled.

## Troubleshooting

* If the period is not saving as expected, check that the value is greater than `0`.
* If you do not see the settings section, make sure the feature is enabled in **New Features** for your project.
