# Enable the Shopify Checkout local payment method selector

> Enable and configure the new Firmhouse selector for local payment methods in Shopify Checkout.

The new Shopify Checkout local payment method selector lets customers switch between local payment methods and regular payment methods during a subscription checkout. You can choose the methods shown by default, set their order, and override the selection for individual countries.

This preview is intended for Shopify Plus stores. Non-Plus stores should use the [Checkout Button Injector](/configure/shopify/checkout-button-injector) instead.

## Before you begin

Make sure that:

* The Firmhouse Subscriptions app is installed and configured for the Shopify store.
* The local payment methods you want to offer are enabled in Shopify Payments.
* Your local payment provider is configured in Firmhouse.
* The preview is enabled for your project. Contact Firmhouse support or your Firmhouse contact to request access.

For the complete payment-provider setup, see [Set up local payment methods on Shopify](/shopify/setup-local-payment-methods).

## Request access to the preview

The selector is currently available as a preview. Contact Firmhouse support through the chat widget or ask your Firmhouse contact to enable **New Shopify Checkout Local Payment Method Selector** for your project.

Once the preview is enabled through **New Features**, **Checkout Settings** appears under **Experience > Shopify Storefront** in Firmhouse.

## Choose and order payment methods

1. In Firmhouse, go to **Experience > Shopify Storefront > Checkout Settings**.
2. Under **Default order**, select the local payment methods that should appear by default.
3. Drag the selected methods into the order customers should see at checkout.
4. To use a different list for a country, select the country under **Country overrides**, turn on **Override default**, and choose and order its methods.
5. Select **Save checkout settings**.

Only select payment methods that are enabled in Shopify Payments. A country without an enabled override uses the default selection.

## Add the selector to Shopify Checkout

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Settings > Checkout**.
2. Under **Configurations**, select **Customize** for the checkout configuration you want to edit.
3. In the checkout and accounts editor, select the **Checkout** page and open the **Apps** sidebar.
4. Add the **\[Preview] Local Payment Options for Subscriptions** app block to **Checkout**.
5. Select the app block and turn on **Additional payment methods are configured**. Only enable this after configuring at least one supported local payment method in Shopify Payments.
6. Place the block where customers should choose between local and regular payment methods.
7. Select **Save**.

## Test the checkout

Start a subscription checkout for each country configuration you use. Confirm that:

* The selector appears for the subscription checkout.
* The local payment methods appear in the configured order.
* Country overrides replace the default selection where enabled.
* Choosing regular payment methods still exposes the expected card or PayPal options.

If the selector does not appear, confirm that the preview is enabled for the project, the app block is added to the active checkout configuration, **Additional payment methods are configured** is turned on, and the cart contains a subscription product.
